Bedside Manner

For those of you who don't know, bedside manner means kindness and gentleness that doctors should show to their patients. Well, today I went to the doctor finally for my shin splints....I've had them too long, so I go to one of the best sports med. centers here in Columbus. My doctor walks in and one of the first things I noticed was that he had what I call a high-class mullet. Short on top, but not buzzed and then a short curly mess on the nap of his neck. You'd think someone as educated as a doctor would know what NOT to do to his hair. So anyways, back to my topic, throughout the entire appointment, I think he smiled only twice, zipped through explaining everything to me so I caught most of it but not all, rarely looked me in the eye let alone my face, and didn't make much, if any, small talk. If I asked a question that he may have answered as rushed through stuff, he'd say, "Well, I said before...." and then repeat it but after making sure I knew he'd already said it. The man knew his stuff but really lacked interpersonal skills...I find that necessary for that profession but I guess some don't see it my way.

What NOT to say to a girl

Today at work we were repackaging shoes and I went to throw and old box into the gaylord (big box) and my supervisor Christian, a big antagonist I might add, hit it away from the gaylord so it wouldn't go in. Sarah, a girl I was working with, said, "OOO, rejected!" And Christian in response said something to the effect of, "Ya, just like all the other guys in your life!" I was shocked. Sarah and I stood there with our mouths agap. I couldn't believe he said that! It seriously made me feel about this big (imagine me holding fingers an inch apart). Talk about one of the biggest no-no's to say to a girl. Take notes, boys, take notes.

Rainbow

I visited German village last night with a few close girl friends. It was Tour of Homes weekend and Gay Pride weekend. I need to learn to shut-up when around gays...lol. We were in this awesome bookstore (32 rooms!!) and accidently wandered into the gay and lesbian section and not thinking I go, "Um, we're in the WRONG section!" Courtney makes some comment that I should probably be a little quieter and I try to excuse myself by saying that I didn't mean anything by it, just was stating this wasn't the section for me. Lol...oops. Then we were sitting outside Starbucks sipping lattes and such and as 4 men walk by I hear this snippit of their conversation: "So if you pop the heads off, they'll grow back right?" another guy: "ya, they're perennials" Ok, so I have to clarify, I have no problem with guys talking about flowers, my parents do, but when they have their arms crossed, a faint lisp and they're using their hands, and we're in the in gay-central, it's not real hard to come to that conclusion. I have to be careful because I find some of the things they do and say comical but I don't mean to stare and be rude...they're some of the nicest people, it's just a different world to me. Oh ya, when we were standing in Starbucks, I made some comment to Liz and then hit her butt and then realized, maybe I shouldn't do that here...haha...good thing no one else was around.

Acts of Service

Yesterday seemed to be a pretty normal day....layed out for awhile and then went for a short run. I went to my Explorer to leave and lo and behold, it wouldn't start (stupid Ford....Fix Or Repair Daily....acronym of Ford). I didn't have the cell phone with me and there weren't any pay phones that I could see there at the park. I went up to some lady and asked if she knew if there were any pay phones. She ended up letting me use her cell phone. I called the house and my cell...neither of which Jonathan answered. Mom and Dad were out of town so they wouldn't have been any help. Well, I left messages for Jonathan (one of which was not very nice and should not have been said.....I was a little frustrated) hoping that he would get them soon. A half hour passed and nothing so I finally went up to another lady and she let me use her phone and I called dad to have him try to find Jonathan. Another half hour later, Jon picked me up. The amazing thing about the whole fiasco was that in my entire hour of sitting there, half way out of the parking spot cause that's where it died, hazard lights on, not one person, NOT ONE, came and asked if I needed help. One lady was even parked right next to me and there was such little room between her car and mine that she could barely squeeze in. Never ever did she ask if I needed help. Ah! If I'd have been in Bellefontaine, I wouldn't have been there for more than 15 minutes without someone asking me if I needed help. People at the park had to inch their way around my car...never asked. I was absolutely astounded. I couldn't believe the lack of care and service these people had.

Dollywood

Bethany (my little 13 yr. old sister) left today to go to Gaitlinburg with a friend from school. While down there, they're also gonna visit Dollywood.... Beth thought that it was gonna kinda be like an amusement park or fair...haha...ya right...gonna be a lot of country music (yuck) and pictures of Ms. Big-boobed, big-haired, face-painted-on Dolly Parton everywhere. Beth asked if her boobs were real...I replied with this: "Beth, nothing real is that perky and big all at the same time." Should be an interesting experience for her...lol

Eating Habits

I've come to realize that when it comes to what I eat, the only people that make comments are, excuse the lack of tact, fat people. Most of you know that I tend to eat pretty healthy. Why?...cause I like healthy food...really I do. I absolutely LOVE salad and eat 1-2 a day. I've been eating them ever since I started eating solid food. I seriously crave salads...yes, you may think it's weird...I think it's yummy, so don't make fun of me for it. That doesn't mean that I don't like pizza and fries and ice cream...cause I do. I love, and I mean love, chocolate and sweets, it's just that I enjoy eating healthy cause I feel good when I do. Ya, I eat junk everyonce in awhile but not all the time cause then I feel gross. I also realize that while I might be only 21, I am getting older and my metabolism is slowing so I need to get in the habit of eating right. So, please (this is aimed at people who really don't read my blog) don't make fun of me for eating healthy and don't make some dumb comment about "that's how you stay so skinny.....you need to eat more" blah, blah, blah....I do eat...ask my mother. They're problem is they don't have the self-control and will power to eat healthy and lose weight. Take that!

Babysitting

I babysat for a 4 year old tonight for 7 hours. His nanny goes to our church and needed the night off so I was more than willing to fill in since they pay more than $10/hr.....easiest money I think I'll ever make. This little boy is adorable,....and spoiled rotten. He's a good kid, though. It's fun to babysit for wealthy families cause they have great toys, the best food, great entertainment (they have just about every DVD out there and a great tv/vcr/dvd system), and of course, great pay. Austin and I made cookies for Father's Day. That was fun...he loved helping me. Getting him ready for bed was entertaining in itself. First there was bath time. Probably the first child I've ever seen not whine and cry when washing their hair. The kid had some great bath toys, let me tell ya. After brushing his teeth, he turned to me and goes, "How does my breath smell?" and then blew air my way....lol. He said his prayers once in bed, asking God to bless all the people he knew, even his new friend. He finished and then in exasperation cried out, "We forgot to bless Jesus!" So then he proceeded to ask God to bless Jesus. I just love the innocence of a child. All the questions about what 10+9 is or 5+100 to dribbling pee down their leg cause they didn't 'aim'. I miss kids so much when I'm at school. It's nice to get some good, quality kid-time in. And then I start thinking....I'm 21...I know I'm single but I sure hope that sometime in the not-to-distant-future, I'll have my own.

Served

Bethany and I decided to get a movie the other night and we quickly decided on You Got Served...a movie about dance-offs. The dancing in this movie is incredible!! A lot of it is breakdancing....oh how I'd love to be able to do that. It reawakened my dream to be some sort of dancer...backup, ballroom, whatever....I'd love it! Oh, wait...I'm Quaker...is that kosher for me??

Grown up

Yesterday Jonathan led the youth group on a trip to Cedar Point. Sadly, I did not go with them. Why? Because I need to work. I need money and decided it was the responsible thing to decline going. I love Cedar Point so in one sense this was hard, but in another, it was an easy decision. I knew I needed to work and that going would be more like loosing 2 days pay for the cost and food and such. I realized that I'm acting more and more like an adult and I don't know if I like that. Sure, I'll take days off but I'm saving those for family vacation....another indicator that I'm getting older: family vacations take precedence over other trips and I WANT to be with my family. Actually, I've always enjoyed family vacations but I think this year I'm looking forward to it more than ever. I guess it was bound to happen sometime and I guess it's good that it's now, considering I will graduate in April and hopefully have a job by next fall...wow

Puppies!!

Last night Jonathan and I stopped in at Rose's house in good 'ole B-town (otherwise known as Bellefontaine) to see her before she left for Brazil today. Well, she never told me that their yellow lab Maggie had puppies!! Jon and I walked in the back porch and Ta-Da!! PUPPIES!! 7 of them!! They're old enough that their eyes are open but they're still kinda half crawling/half walking around. I LOVE puppies so I was thrilled when I saw them. I stood and held them for awhile. I love it when they grunt and make little noises and I must admit, as Rose did also, that I do like puppy breath....it's not the same as doggy breath...it's different. So now, I want a puppy.

Camo

Last night Rose, Courtney, Donny, Jonathan, and I went out to eat to BD's Mongolian Barbeque for Rose's big 21st birthday. It was tons of fun, complete with grill boy singing to Rose some random made-up song. Afterwards we decided to go to Galyans and play. :) We were all kind of wandering around and Donny came up to me and told me I had to come to the hunting section. He and I put some of the camo garb on and waited for the others to come. Jonathan came and joined in the fun. I had this awesome camo outfit that looked like it had leaves hanging off of it! So cool! When we were all 'dressed' (Jon complete with paintball gun), we crept and slithered our way through the store in search of Rose and Courtney. We were trying to avoid the employees. Out of no where an employee jumps out and, hands in a fake gun, 'shoots' us. I just died laughing! I loved that he joined in with us. Well, the girls saw us I guess, cause Rose came and tackled me from behind. So fun! Love Galyans!

Oye

So I just got my book and information concerning my online class that starts next Tuesday. I went online and looked over the material and assignments and I've come to the conclusion that I have my work cut out for me. Lots of reading....knew that one; a lot of discussion stuff....could be tricky; random assignments out the wazoo....puh-leeze; and get this, GROUP assignments.....ahh! And to top it off, the second to last week is during my vacation...just peachy.... guess I get to work ahead, or at least try to, and visit the Kelley's Island library....gross...I wanna puke....all this cause my major is basically a DOUBLE major. Yes, I know this is my calling, but sometimes it's a bit frustrating and stressful. Lord, gonna need some help this month as I juggle a full-time job and a 3-credit hr. class in 5 weeks time.

A real appreciation for running

I got to run today!!!! Finally after letting my shins heal for a month, I went for a run and it was fantastic!! Jonathan and I only ran about 15 minutes since I wanted to take it easy and ease back into running, but still, I ran and I'm happy :) I've really missed it, which makes me appreciate it so much more now. So many people hate running but it's a release for me. I love being in-shape and getting out and doing something. I can't imagine not being able to run. Eventually I'll be back up where I want to be at 3-4 miles.....oh, I can't wait!

A little Lake Michigan dip

After sitting in JP's coffee shop in downtown Holland with Jen, Kara, Jeff, Ali, and Dan for like 3 hours, we decided to go to the beach (minus Ali). Dan took us to some private beach in front of these enormous houses. We stood around kinda wadding in the cold water and Dan pipes up, "I really wanna get in." Well, so did I but I wasn't about to jump in the freezing water with jeans on so after some coaxing, I convinced the girls to get in with me. We told the boys to go down the beach so we couldn't see them and they couldn't see us and we stripped down to our skivvies (as Jen would say) and went for it. WOW was it cold!!! We jumped in and out and and 60-some degree air felt warm after that water. We stood around trying to 'dry off', running around trying to get water out of our clothes. I think I about peed my pants I was laughing so hard. We finally got dressed and walked up the beach to meet Dan and Jeff. Jen goes, "So did you guys get in in your boxers?" Jeff: "Nope...we skinny dipped."

Slightly awkward

At the wedding yesterday, there was a groomsman, who will remain nameless, that I know that ushered me, Jen, and Jeff to our seats. Well, I'm the only one that knows him so of course I stepped up, thinking he'd offer me his arm cause, well, that's what ushers do...but he didn't and it made for the funniest awkward moment! I'm walking up thinking to myself, "Did he offer me his arm and I miss it? Should I grab his arm? I feel like I'm in 3rd grade and boys have cooties and I can't touch his arm." LOL I looked back at Jen and she did this whole 'not me' face and acted like she was pushing me forward so I turned around quickly. I grabbed my program thingy and started looking at it, not really looking at it cause of the awkwardness of the moment and the guy tried to make conversation by going, "So, how was the drive?" lol....every time I looked at him that day, I started laughing. too funny...oh ya, then we saw him usher an 8 yr. old up and I thought to myself, "You offer HER your arm and not ME?!?" hahaha

Michigan has won my heart.....but I'm forever a Buckeye fan :)

This weekend I made the 6 hr. trip up to Michigan for a wedding but not before visiting a few people and learning my way around western Michigan. It was an AWESOME weekend!! I first stopped in K-zoo (that's what I like to call it ;)) to see good 'ole A.C. Slater...j/k Jon! Then I went up to Holland and went out to eat with Jeff and this wonderful little restaurant and this is when I fell in love with Holland, Michigan...quit possibly the cutest, prettiest little town ever!!! I LOVE IT! I could definitely live there...heck, maybe I will when I graduate! The shops, restaurants, coffee shops, candy stores, ice cream shops, flowers, houses, landscaping...they were all incredibly and made this town feel so inviting! I think I drove them nuts with all my "Holland so great! I love it!" talk...lol! You dutch really know how to make a cool little town :)

Pizza Day!

So tomorrow at work, our boss Todd is buying everyone pizza while we have a meeting. I got home today and was talking about work and Jonathan suddenly remembered that tomorrow is 'pizza day' and he got really excited...kinda like a 4 year old gets when they get candy....and he started doing his own little rendition of the running man, dancing in the kitchen, grin from ear to ear singing "tomorrow's pizza day, tomorrow's pizza day..." Yes, you, me, we all laugh, but this is normal behavior for him. :)

Barnes and Noble

Yesterday, Jonathan and I decided to go to Barnes and Noble and just kinda hang out and graze through some books. I absolutely love that store!! I just wish that I would have had more time...and I need to have my sweat pants on, not jeans....can't curl up with a book with jeans on. I visited the children's section....great place :) Read a book about some farting dog...pretty funny. I found some science book I'd love to have as part of my classroom library someday. I love looking at the cooking books. I looked through one that was all cakes and when I say cakes I mean decorated-to-the-hilt cakes that looked amazing! I'd love to learn to do that! Baking is so fun!! So don't be surprised if any of you get a random batch of cookies in the mail...that is, if I have your address :) There's just something relaxing about a bookstore....I love it! Just wish I had money to buy whatever I wanted. It's also a great place to go for a date. Sit and read and discuss books; go find funny kids books and laugh together; go get coffee and chat. I don't know about you, but I think that's fun....and cheap!
